2023 North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC), the premier event for everyone involved in the design and construction of steel buildings and bridges happened in April. This event also hosts the Steel Structure Research Council (SSRC)’s Annual Stability Conference. CFSRC investigators, their postdocs and graduate students attended and presented on their most recent research endeavors.
The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) presented two Terry Peshia Early Career Faculty Awards to the CFSRC Investigators Hannah Blum and Thomas Gernay at the NASCC. The Terry Peshia Awards recognize individuals who are on a tenure track or have received tenure with the last three years and who demonstrate promise in the areas of structural steel research, teaching, and/or other contributions to the structural steel industry.
Hannah Blum and Thomas Gernay have been collaborating and published several research papers on the fire behavior of advanced high-strength cold-formed steel.

Hannah Blum also received the McGuire Award as a junior researcher who has taken part in stability-related research projects at the SSRC Annual Stability Conference. The award honors the late SSRC member Professor William “Bill” McGuire, a champion of cutting-edge research to improve stability design.
Congratulations to our successful investigators Hannah Blum and Thomas Gernay.
